Southern Argentina Crops To Be Most Stressed By Dryness

Kansas City, January 30 (World Weather Inc.) – Most of Argentina dried out during this past week due to no rain and warm biased temperatures. Crop moisture stress has not been a serious problem up until now and the crops that are feeling the heat and dryness most are those planted most recently in central and southern Buenos Aires and La Pampa where the ground is quickly becoming too dry for their under-developed root systems. Longer-rooted crops were still able to draw moisture from the subsoil keeping them in good condition. Another week of drier and warmer than usual weather is expected for most of Argentina and that will deplete topsoil moisture in most areas forcing crops to rely on subsoil moisture for normal development. Those areas with the lowest subsoil moisture will experience the greatest stress until rain falls.

Brazil Weather To Stay Good For Most Crop, Farming Needs

Kansas City, January 29 (World Weather Inc.) – Northeastern Brazil reported abundant rainfall during the past week. The ground is saturated and localized flooding may have occurred, though crop and structural damage was suspected of being minimal. Rainfall varied elsewhere in Brazil with many areas in Rio Grande do Sul and southern Mato Grosso receiving little to no rain. The main production areas had ample moisture to support aggressive growth, even in areas that experienced net drying. The lack of rain was also beneficial for early-season soybean harvesting. Much of Brazil will receive less than usual rain this week. Some periodic rain will still occur and help maintain a generally good environment for developing crops. Harvesting and general fieldwork will also advance swiftly around the precipitation. Rain potentials are expected to increase during the second week of the outlook and should restore the moisture that is lost to evaporation this week.
