Argentina Rain Will Support Good Late-Season Growth

Kansas City, March 12 (World Weather Inc.) – A large section of Argentina’s crop country received enough rain to keep soil moisture rated favorably during the past week. Soybean, corn, and other coarse grain, oilseed, and cotton development conditions remained good due to the ample moisture. Sunseed and rice harvesting is underway in several locations while soybean and corn harvesting is set to begin in the coming weeks. Central and southern Argentina will have several opportunities for rain this week that will help maintain favorable late-season development. Maturation and early-season harvesting may move along sluggishly in the wettest areas and there is some potential for declining grain and oilseed quality in rice and sunseed fields of the east.

Brazil Drying Adds Pressure For Post Monsoonal Rain

Kansas City, March 12 (World Weather Inc.) – Soybean and first-season corn harvesting is advancing slightly ahead of last year’s pace across Brazil. Rainfall in the past week slowed the harvest at times. The wettest locations would benefit from a period of drier weather to improve harvesting and general fieldwork, though no significant impacts were suspected. Safrinha corn planting is also coming to an end with most locations having adequate moisture to support establishment. Other than Rio Grande do Sul, a large section of southern Brazil will trend drier this week. Harvesting, planting, and general fieldwork should advance at a rapid pace as the ground firms; however, the main concern will be the rapid decline in soil moisture for center-west and portions of center-south Brazil as daytime highs climb well into the 90s Fahrenheit or even above 100 degrees without much meaningful rain. The environment will briefly become more stressful for crops, although rain potentials should increase March 21-25.. The moisture profile should slowly improve with rain and temperatures are likely fall into a more favorable level for crop development.
