China’s Winter Rapeseed, Wheat Prospects Remain Favorable

Kansas City, March 12 (World Weather Inc.) – The main winter rapeseed and wheat areas were either dry or received limited precipitation during the past week. The Yangtze River Basin and North China Plain still have adequate amounts of moisture in the soil and development potentials remain favorable. Guangxi, Guangdong, and Fujian also received timely rain in recent days that will be beneficial for early-season rice, and other crop planting. Waves of rain are slated near and south of the Yangtze River Basin during the coming week. Rainfall will help keep soil moisture near current levels or bolster soil moisture in most locations outside Yunnan. Winter rapeseed and early-season planting prospects will remain generally favorable outside the driest areas. The North China Plain and central Yellow River Basin will otherwise receive little to no precipitation during the coming week. Winter wheat prospects will remain favorable despite the lack of precipitation.

Weekly Citrus Weather For March 12, 2024

Kansas City, March 12 (World Weather Inc.) – Periods of rain were again noted in Florida during the past week. The environment remained favorable for citrus that is blooming, setting fruit and developing. Drier-than-normal weather will evolve during the coming week, increasing the need for irrigation. Harvesting will advance with few disruptions. In Brazil, Sao Paulo and southwestern Minas Gerais will trend warmer and drier than normal during the coming week. Daytime highs could climb above 100 degrees Fahrenheit at times in western Sao Paulo, which could stress trees and impact some of the fruit. East-central and northeastern Mexico will have an opportunity for much-needed rain later this weekend and early next week. However, much of Mexico will need much more precipitation to completely fix the moisture deficits.

Mercosur Rice Threatened By Frequent Rain

Kansas City, March 12 (World Weather Inc.) – A persistent high pressure system aloft over southern Brazil has the corn market concerned about poor Safrinha crop performance this year especially for crops most recently planted. However, the high pressure center is also blocking storm systems from moving out of Argentina into southern Brazil and that sets the stage for repetitive rain events to impact Uruguay, Rio Grande do Sul and eastern Argentina. That region produces many different crops including coarse grain and oilseeds, but it also produces rice and this is the absolute worst time of year for frequent rain to fall. The impact may lead to widespread rice quality declines and possibly some production cuts as well.
