Mainland Southeast Asia Seasonal Rainfall Delayed

Kansas City, March 13 (World Weather Inc.) – Seasonal rainfall has yet to begin in a large section of mainland Southeast Asia. Showers normally begin in March with some areas in Thailand and Vietnam already receiving varying amounts of rain. However, rainfall has been lower than usual where it has occurred. El Nino has been weakening in recent weeks, though not enough for neutral ENSO conditions. The ongoing El Nino has promoted drier than normal conditions in the past three months, although normal rainfall is not much until March begins. The need for rain is increasing. Spotty showers will evolve on a frequent basis during the next two weeks for much of mainland Southeast Asia. Minor improvements to the moisture profile will be possible in areas that receive the greatest amount of rain; however, overall rain totals will be too light to significantly improve the moisture profile. Early-season planting prospects will remain less than favorable to poor until significant rain falls.
