Algeria, Tunisia Miss Significant Rain Event

Kansas City, April 2 (World Weather Inc.) – North-central Morocco reported abundant rainfall during the past week that may have damaged or reduced the quality of some early maturing grain and oilseed crops. Other locations in Morocco and the main production areas of Algeria and Tunisia missed out on the more significant rain event and experienced some net drying. Most of North Africa’s winter crop areas will be dry for the next ten days and that will lead to a steady decline in soil moisture which may harm crops reproducing and filling. Production in Algeria and Tunisia was expected to be greater than last year because of timely rainfall earlier this season and that may still be the case, although rain must fall soon. Northern Morocco is expecting a much larger crop this year as long as flooding rain did not induce damage this past week. Southwestern Morocco, far northeastern Morocco and northwestern Algeria are still deeply in the throngs of drought with poor yields likely.

Weekly Citrus Weather for April 2, 2024

Kansas City, April 2 (World Weather Inc.) – Florida’s citrus production region generally received light amounts of rain during the past week. Irrigation was run as-needed and continued to support a good environment for fruit and tree development. Rainfall will again be limited during the coming week and the need for irrigation will remain high. Brazil’s citrus areas received rain during the past week that helped maintain relatively good citrus conditions. Greening disease and adverse conditions earlier in the growing season continue to promote lower than normal yields. In Mexico, the main citrus areas were again dry or mostly dry during the past week. Little to no rain is expected during the coming week and drought will likely intensify.
