Weekly Citrus Weather For Tuesday, April 9, 2024

Kansas City, April 9 (World Weather Inc.) – Florida’s main citrus areas generally received light amounts of rain during the past week. The region relied on irrigation to maintain a good environment for fruit setting and general development. Other than a few light showers during the next few days, rainfall will remain limited through early next week. The need for irrigation will continue. In Brazil, the main citrus areas generally received enough rain to support good development. Most locations outside portions of north-central and east-central Sao Paulo will receive additional rain during the coming week that will continue to promote good citrus conditions. Production is still expected to be lower than usual due to greening disease and harsh weather earlier in the season. Mexico continues to struggle with dryness and there is not a good opportunity for rain for at least the next seven days.

Mato Grosso do Sul to Parana, Brazil To Get Needed Rain

Kansas City, April 8 (World Weather Inc.) – Weeks of below normal precipitation have plagued Mato Grosso do Sul, parts of Paraguay and neighboring areas of Bolivia, Mato Grosso and Parana. Most of the region has not been critically dry for very long without getting some timely rain; however, production has been cut especially in Mato Grosso do Sul due to the longevity of the drier than usual bias. An impressive trough of low pressure moving from Argentina to the southeastern corner of Brazil this weekend and next week will induce a band of significant rain in these drier areas as well as soaking a part of Argentina. The relief could not be better timed due to the likely end of the summer monsoon in the next couple of weeks. The last minute surge of moisture could help carry crops closer to reproduction without enduring a serious bout of moisture stress, though late April and May weather will likely have more to say about the success of reproduction than this event.

Philippines Rain Prospects Remain Poor; Crop Losses Possible

Kansas City, April 8 (World Weather Inc.) – Northern and western portions of the Philippines were drier than usual during much of the Northern Hemisphere winter season while other portions of the nation experienced well timed rainfall. The trend in recent weeks has been to expand dryness across a larger part of the archipelago and now the nation is enduring short to very short top and subsoil moisture. Dryness remains most serious in the north and western parts of nation, but the expansion southward could lead to crop production issues over a larger part of the country if relief does not come soon. Another ten days to two weeks of poor rainfall and warmer than usual temperatures is expected. In the meantime, portions of mainland Southeast Asia is also experiencing below normal precipitation and some concern about early season crops is beginning.
