Tropical Cyclone Olga To Stay North Of Australia

Kansas City, April 8 (World Weather Inc.) – Tropical Cyclone Olga formed north of Australia during the weekend. The storm was expected to parallel the northwest coast of Australia this week and dissipate over open water to the northwest of the Learmonth area. The storm poses very little threat to land even though the system will be located not far from the north coast of the nation.

Middle East Winter Wheat, Spring Planting Prospects Favorable

Kansas City, April 5 (World Weather Inc.) – Middle East winter grain areas generally received timely precipitation since the start of the year. Only eastern and central Iran, northern Iraq, and pockets of western Turkey were drier biased. The combination of timely precipitation and irrigation promoted a good environment for winter wheat as it came out of dormancy in recent weeks. With additional rain slated for Iraq, Syria, eastern and central Turkey, and western Iran through the end of next week, the moisture profile will remain favorable. Production potentials are also looking good for the upcoming spring season. Planting conditions for the summer rice and cotton will be good outside the driest locations.

Southern Alberta, Canada Receives Rain, Snow; More Needed

Kansas City, April 5 (World Weather Inc.) – Waves of snow and rain occurred this past week in southern Alberta and in a part of western and north-central Saskatchewan. The precipitation and that which occurred in late March in southern Alberta is slowly improving the topsoil moisture so that spring planting can begin soon after years of drought. Drought remains in many areas and more precipitation must fall, but at least there has been some sign that the weather may be improving. Light precipitation will be scattered across Alberta and western Saskatchewan during the next several days as a blocking weather pattern continues over North America. Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan will be mostly dry through early next week. The weather block will break down later next week, though there is not much potential for significant precipitation for a while.
