Southeast U.S. Flooding May Lead To Replanting

Kansas City, April 11 (World Weather Inc.) – An impressive two-day rain event that moved from eastern Texas through the middle Delta to northern Florida and southern Georgia has proven once again that the atmosphere is still fully capable of producing excessive rain just like it has in the past. More flooding is likely to occur over a larger part of North America in coming years as we move away from this 22-year solar cycle biased for drought and weather extremes. In the meantime, the cleanup from all of the flooding and severe weather that occurred this week is under way. Some agricultural areas will have to replant, due to the severity of flooding especially in low-lying areas.

Brazil Entering Last Nine Days of Monsoonal Rain

Kansas City, April 11 (World Weather Inc.) – A strong cold front moving northeast from Argentina will bring cooler and drier air into a large part of Brazil’s summer crop region late next week and into the following weekend. The frontal system will help push most of the monsoonal precipitation farther to the north and bring an end to seasonal rainfall. Recent rain and that expected in this coming week will help support crops and improve topsoil moisture just ahead of the monsoon withdrawal; however, subsoil moisture will remain low in Mato Grosso do Sul, Parana and some immediate neighboring areas.

Flood Potentials Increasing South Of China’s Yangtze River

Kansas City, April 10 (World Weather Inc.) – Abundant rainfall was noted in portions of Fujian, Guangdong, and southern sections of Hunan and Jiangxi in China during the past week. These areas are excessively wet with more waves of rain through the middle of next week. Additional rainfall will likely promote flooding for several locations that may limit early-season planting and general fieldwork. Minor damage to winter rapeseed will be possible as well, though overall losses should be minimal. The need for drier weather will increase later this month into early May. Yunnan remains too dry to support ideal planting and establishment. Conditions will remain mostly unchanged in the coming weeks. Winter wheat prospects remain generally favorable for the North China Plain and central Yellow River Basin, though dryness is intensifying in Hebei and neighboring locations.

Russia High Pressure Ridge May Foreshadow Summer Dryness

Kansas City, April 11 (World Weather Inc.) – Limited precipitation for much of the western Commonwealth of Independent States coupled with periods of warmer than normal weather promoted net drying during the past week. Flood potentials were further reduced due to the lack of abundant rainfall. Early-season planting and general fieldwork in the drier areas of Ukraine and Russia’s Southern Region has likely advanced swiftly. Winter wheat, barley, rye, and rapeseed conditions remained favorable as well despite the lack of significant rainfall. Another week of drier and warmer than normal weather is slated for much of the western CIS. Periodic rain will still occur and help limit drying. Winter crop potentials will remain favorable. Planting and general fieldwork will again advance around the rain as well. A building high pressure ridge next week will be partially responsible for additional drying and it may be foreshadowing a bout of dryness and heat this summer.
