Eastern Midwest, Delta Too Wet And More Rain Coming

Kansas City, April 12 (World Weather Inc.) – Weather will vary significantly across the U.S. through the end of next week with periods of much warmer and much colder weather, rain and storms, and breezy conditions. The severe temperature swings will likely impact development rates for winter grains and a few early-planted summer crops. Yield impacts will be minimal. The temperature swings and breezy conditions may also stress livestock. Early-season planting in the Midwest will also be impacted with more prolonged delays in getting into some eastern and northwestern Midwest fields due to wet conditions and colder temperatures later next week and into the following weekend.

Australia’s Winter Crop Areas In Need Of Greater Rain

Kansas City, April 12 (World Weather Inc.) – Periodic rain in recent weeks improved soil moisture for portions of Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria. Rainfall may have slowed harvesting of the summer crops at times, though no major fieldwork delays were suspected. Yields for the summer grains, oilseeds, and sorghum are expected to trend near normal this season despite the emergence of El Nino over the growing season. The focus for Australia in the coming weeks will be the need for timely rain as winter wheat, barley, and canola planting expands. Western Australia and South Australia are too dry to support ideal planting conditions with little rain expected for the next week to ten days. Queensland will have a few opportunities for rain through the end of next week while New South Wales and Victoria also trend drier than normal. The need for timely rain will increase across the country late this month into May.
