North China Plain Dryness Will Intensify Despite Spotty Rain

Kansas City, June 12 (World Weather Inc.) – Warmer-and drier-than-normal weather promoted aggressive drying across China’s North China Plain in recent weeks. The main production areas were either dry or received limited rainfall in the most recent week while temperatures frequently surged well into the 90s Fahrenheit with pockets warming above 100 degrees. Summer crop establishment and development have been hindered by these conditions and rain must fall to improve the situation. Heat and dryness has been great for winter crop harvesting. Any showers that occur in the coming week will fail to seriously change the situation. There is some potential for better rainfall June 20-26, though confidence is not very high.

Recent West Texas Rainfall Improves Outlook For Some Crops

Kansas City, June 12 (World Weather Inc.) – Fears of another drought year have been reduced in recent weeks by favorable spring rainfall in “portions” of West Texas cotton, corn, sorghum and peanut production areas. Rain in this most recent week was the most impressive of the season for some counties and parts of counties in the northern and eastern parts of West Texas and in a part of the Rolling Plains. A week of drying is expected, but there may be more rain late next week if a stronger ridge of high pressure fails to evolve. In the meantime, it is important to note that many of the southwestern dryland production areas of West Texas are too dry for normal crop development and some loss in production potential is also expected.
