China Flood Potential Rises Between Yellow, Yangtze Rivers

Kansas City, July 5 (World Weather Inc.) – Waves of rain during the past week helped bolster soil moisture and water levels for China’s Yangtze River Basin and North China Plain. Widespread flooding has not yet occurred, though flood potentials will increase in the coming days as additional rain falls. Some of the most significant rain is slated for Sichuan, southern Shaanxi, and portions of Hubei into Henan, northern sections of Anhui and Jiangsu, and southern Shandong. Damaging floods will be possible with some losses to the grains, oilseeds, cotton, and other crops. Long-term crop conditions will improve in some of the driest areas in the North China Plain that do not experience flooding. However, a period of drier weather will be needed toward mid-July to limit any additional crop damage. Southern China, in the meantime, will dry down through the end of next week, which will be beneficial for areas that are excessively wet.

Western North America Heatwave To Have Many Impacts

Kansas City, July 5 (World Weather Inc.) – An impressive ridge of high pressure already over the western United States will intensify and drift to the east over the coming week. The system’s intensity and slow movement promises to produce a number of impacts from reduced milk production to strong cooling fuel demand. Dryland spring and summer crops will be seriously threatened from the U.S. Pacific Northwest into the northwestern Great Plains and the southwestern Canada Prairies where in a few days the ground could go from favorably moist to quite dry raising worry over crop production potentials.
