Mexico Drought Easing; Much More Rain Needed

Kansas City, July 10 (World Weather Inc.) – Drought has been eased in large sections of eastern Mexico recently resulting from frequent tropical disturbances and the start of the annual monsoon season. The moisture profile has improved significantly in many areas, though additional rain is needed to completely erase dryness. Monsoonal rain in the remaining production areas has not, yet, been enough to erase drought despite some improvements, though the environment has slowly improved for summer grain, oilseed, cotton and other crop development. Many areas in southern, central, and northwestern Mexico are still notably drought stricken and abundant rain is needed to end the drought, improve water supply and support crops through the summer. Timely monsoonal rain will continue for much of the country during the next two weeks and soil moisture will further increase.

Western CIS Impacts From High-Pressure Ridge Will Vary

Kansas City, July 10 (World Weather Inc.) – Dryness continues to intensify for Russia’s Volga River Basin and ‘Southern Region’, eastern Ukraine and western Kazakhstan despite some spotty rain during the past week. A high-pressure ridge limited significant rain while also lifting temperatures through the 90s to near and slightly above 100 degrees Fahrenheit at times. The environment was stressful for spring and summer crops as well as livestock and this will continue for at least another week. Concern over possible production cuts may increase, especially if adverse conditions persist through the end of the month. Other locations in Western Russia, western Ukraine, and Belarus will also receive limited rain due to the ridge and will need timely precipitation later this month. Harvesting of winter grain and oilseeds will advance swiftly.
