Unusually Cool U.S. Air Mass To Break Down Later In July

Kansas City, July 19 (World Weather Inc.) – A large, unusually cool air mass has moved down into the central U.S. crop regions in what is typically the hottest time of the year for much of this area. The cool air is mostly beneficial for regions such as the Corn Belt, Delta, West Texas, and Hard Red Winter Wheat Region due to the lack of crop and livestock stress. A weak upper-level weather disturbance will also be slowly moving through the central U.S. this weekend into next week providing some needed rainfall. Warmer air will eventually be needed again to help accelerate crop development, especially for soybeans and should come later this month. Meanwhile, unusual heat in the western Canada Prairies and far western U.S. continues to be an issue.

North China Plain Crop Prospects Improving

Kansas City, July 18 (World Weather Inc.) – Recent rainfall significantly improved the moisture profile for portions of the North China Plain and central Yellow River Basin in recent weeks. Flooding has occurred in in Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, and neighboring locations which damaged some crops and property. Rainfall was otherwise enough to support better long-term prospects for the grains, oilseeds, cotton, and other crops. The region was struggling with dryness earlier in the summer and vegetative health is less than favorable. Additional rain in the coming days will continue to support better long-term crop prospects. In the meantime, many areas near and south of the Yangtze River dried down during the past week and will remain drier biased for at least the next seven days. The need for rain will increase late this month and early August to limit production cuts due to the ongoing dryness.

East-Central China July Floods Damage Crops, Property

Kansas City, July 18 (World Weather Inc.) – Rain in east-central China from Sichuan to Jiangsu and Sichuan this month has been phenomenal for some areas. Rain totals of 10.00 to nearly 24.00 inches have occurred since the beginning of this month resulting in some very serious flooding, considerable property damage has occurred and World Weather, Inc. suspects damage to a number of crops; including rice. Some of this damaging rain and flooding reached in central portions of the Korean Peninsula as well

Russia’s ‘Southern Region’ Temperatures To Moderate

Kansas City, July 18 (World Weather Inc.) – A strong high-pressure ridge limited rainfall and promoted above normal temperatures across Russia’s ‘Southern Region’ and Volga River Basin into eastern Ukraine and western Kazakhstan during the past week. Aggressive drying continued across the region and drought was firmly in place in a large section of crop country. Vegetative health deteriorated and concerns for production losses are increasing. Although these areas will experience milder temperatures in the coming days, there will not be much relief from the dryness. The environment will remain stressful for the summer grains and oilseeds produced in these locations. The moisture profile is more favorable in the remaining production areas of the western Commonwealth of Independent States. Periods of erratic rainfall will maintain generally good crop conditions during the coming week
