Southeast Canada Will Dry Down; Crop Prospects Still Good

Kansas City, July 17 (World Weather Inc.) – The main coarse grain and oilseed production areas in Southeast Canada remain abundantly wet. The region trended wetter or much wetter than normal in recent weeks, keeping the ground saturated. Late-season planting and general fieldwork likely advanced slowly due to the wet weather. Long-term crop conditions are otherwise favorable. Much-needed drying is slated for southeastern Ontario and southern Quebec through the middle of next week. The reduction in rain will be welcome for those trying to get into the fields more aggressively. Crop conditions will also improve or remain favorable despite the lack of rain.

Western Thailand, Myanmar Still Struggling With Dryness

Kansas City, July 17 (World Weather Inc.) – Several areas in Myanmar and western Thailand remain too dry to support ideal conditions for the corn, rice, sugarcane and other crops. Monsoonal rain in recent weeks trended below or well below normal in several locations and aggressive drying occurred. Waves of monsoonal rain are slated for some of the driest locations through the middle of next week and improvements are expected. Crops will react favorably to the rain. Other locations in Southeast Asia generally have enough moisture to support aggressive growth; however, pockets in Sumatra, Java, and neighboring locations started to dry down recently and would welcome increased rainfall. Many areas in Indonesia will trend drier than normal during the coming week and will need much more rain late this month into early August.
