Canada Prairies Drying Pressuring Yields For Canola, Wheat

Kansas City, July 24 (World Weather Inc.) – Recent drying in Canada, the U.S. Pacific Northwest and the northwestern U.S. Plains has depleted topsoil moisture. Unirrigated crops are now dependent upon subsoil moisture for normal crop development and it is being reduced on a daily basis. The persistence of warm to hot temperatures has aggravated the situation in Canada, Montana and the western Dakotas and yield potentials are beginning to fall in each of these areas that are not irrigated. There may be a limit to the losses, though because of the lateness of the season and the good start to the growing season.

Central India Flood Potentials Will Further Increase

Kansas City, July 23 (World Weather Inc.) – A swath of heavy rain was noted from northeastern Andhra Pradesh and southwestern Odisha in central India during the past few days as a monsoonal low-pressure center advanced into the region. With more rain on the way during the coming week, flood potentials will further increase for central India and portions of Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and northeastern Andhra Pradesh. Long-term crop potentials will remain favorable, though flooding may damage a small amount of crop. Western Gujarat and areas along the southwestern India coastline also reported heavy rain during the past week and are excessively wet. Flood potentials are high and additional rain in the coming days may promote severe flooding. The remaining production areas outside western Rajasthan and portions of southeastern India otherwise have ample moisture to support aggressive growth. Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and neighboring locations will need timely rain in August to reverse the dryness and support favorable long-term crop conditions.

Weekly Citrus Weather for July 23, 2024

Kansas City, July 23 (World Weather Inc.) – Seasonal rainfall was noted across the main citrus areas of Florida during the past week. The environment remained generally favorable for aggressive citrus growth. Although scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue on a frequent basis during the coming week, much of citrus country will trend drier than normal. The need for irrigation may increase in areas that dry down significantly. Mexico’s citrus areas received varying amounts of rain during the past week. Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will funnel into the country during the coming week, which will enhance rainfall for several production areas. Development conditions will slowly improve. However, additional rain will be needed to completely erase drought. In Brazil, the main citrus areas were mostly dry during the past week. Dry or mostly dry weather will persist during the coming week and harvesting will continue with few disruptions.
