Russia Southern Region, Eastern Ukraine Still Drying

Kansas City, July 24 (World Weather Inc.) – Russia’s ‘Southern Region’ and Volga River Basin into eastern Ukraine and western Kazakhstan remained too dry to support favorable crop conditions despite some spotty rain during the past week. The lack of abundant precipitation was beneficial for harvesting of the winter grains and oilseeds. However, the environment deteriorated for spring and summer grains and oilseeds. Drier biased conditions will persist through at least the first few days in August. Temperatures will be relatively mild and may limit aggressive drying at times, though substantial rain is needed now to protect spring wheat, sunseed, corn and soybean development in unirrigated fields. Other production areas in the western Commonwealth of Independent States have ample moisture to support favorable crop conditions, although the eastern New Lands will be wet and cool for much of the coming week.
