Luzon Island, Philippines Flooding Threatens Rice

Kansas City, July 25 (World Weather Inc.) – Although Typhoon Gaemi did not make landfall over The Philippines earlier this week, the disturbance tracked close enough to Luzon Island to lash the region with heavy rain. Rainfall was greater near and along the western Luzon coastline with severe flooding and landslides noted. Damage to rice, corn, and other crops was likely. However, the extent of the losses was not yet known. Western Luzon will continue to receive rain on a frequent basis in the coming days and flood potentials will remain high. Mindanao and the Visayan Islands otherwise received enough rain to support relatively good crop conditions during the past week. Additional rain in the coming week will keep soil moisture near current levels.

Tropical Storm Gaemi To Induce Flooding In Eastern China

Kansas City, July 25 (World Weather Inc.) – After lashing Taiwan with torrential rain and severe winds, Typhoon Gaemi recently made landfall over Fujian in southeastern China. Gaemi has already moderated to a tropical storm and will continue to weaken while tracking over eastern China in the coming days. Heavy rain and strong wind will still evolve for Fujian and neighboring locations in Guangdong, Jiangxi, and Zhejiang into Friday. Remnants of Gaemi will also enhance rainfall for Shandong, Hebei, and northern Henan into Liaoning and Jilin later Friday into early next week. Flooding will be the greatest concern for these locations. Rice and sugarcane may be damaged in southeastern China. Grains, oilseeds, and cotton may also be impacted by flooding in portions of the North China Plain and Northeast China.
