Northern China Rain May Impact Grains, Oilseeds

Kansas City, August 9 (World Weather Inc.) – Several locations in China’s Northeast Provinces and central Inner Mongolia are excessively wet after waves of rain in recent weeks. With more rain on the way through the end of next week, the ground will remain saturated. Localized flooding will also be a concern through early next week, most notably in Inner Mongolia. Minor damage to the grains and oilseeds will be possible. Wet weather diseases will also be a concern as northern China produces much of the spring wheat and sunseed, along with a significant amount of corn, soybeans, and rice. Rain potentials should decrease during the second week of the outlook, bringing the region much-needed drying.

U.S. Plains Heat To Return After Aug. 16; Lunar Cycle Verifies

Kansas City, August 9 (World Weather Inc.) – Summer weather in the U.S. central and southern Plains has been very warm to hot this year just like some of the temperatures in the far western United States. The number of days with 100-degree heat has been well above average from the central and southwestern Plains to the Pacific Coast. Some climate enthusiasts want to make the summer’s heatwave a climate change issue, but World Weather, Inc. reminds its readers of our winter temperature study that clearly showed a link between the lunar cycle for this year and an unusually high number of 100-degree temperature days that occurred in 2006, 1988, 1970, 1952, 1934 and to a lesser degree 1916 in the Great Plains and some immediate neighboring areas. The Great Plains heat has been abating this week, but it will return again August 16.
