U.S. Midwest, Northern Plains To See Rain Return This Week

Kansas City, August 12 (World Weather Inc.) – Outside portions of the Atlantic Coast States impacted by Hurricane Debby, aggressive drying was noted in a large portion of the U.S. agricultural belt during the past week. Rainfall was limited outside portions of the Upper Midwest. Temperatures were also warmer biased in portions of the Plains, which accelerated drying. The Midwest still had some moisture to support new growth despite the drying trend. Rain will return for much of the Midwest and northern Plains this week that should maintain a good environment for the crops produced this time of year. Many areas in the central Plains will also receive timely rain while the southern Plains are drier biased. The Delta, however, may continue drier biased, despite some rain.

Tropical Storm Maria Brings Heavy Rain To Honshu, Japan

Kansas City, August 12 (World Weather Inc.) – Tropical Storm Maria made landfall over northeastern Honshu, Japan earlier this morning. Torrential rain lashed coastal areas of Iwate Prefecture and severe flooding was already noted. Damage to rice and general infrastructure is expected, though the extent of the damage is not yet known. Maria will enter the Sea of Japan today and will slowly dissipate by mid-week. Tropical Depression Eight also recently evolved over the western Pacific Ocean and will slowly track toward Japan during the next several days. The disturbance could track near or into Honshu Friday. However, there is too much time out in the forecast to have high confidence in the exact track the disturbance will take.
