Russia’s ‘Southern Region’, Ukraine Will Again Dry Down

Kansas City, August 8 (World Weather Inc.) – Several areas in Russia’s Volga River Basin and USDA defined ‘Southern Region’ into Ukraine received “some” much-needed rain during the past week. Resulting rainfall was too light to significantly increase the moisture profile, though “some” short term improvements to summer grain and oilseed conditions were suspected. Drier biased conditions will return during the coming week and these areas will again dry down. Crop conditions will remain less than favorable to poor despite recent rainfall. Other production areas in the western Commonwealth of Independent States received enough rain to support aggressive growth during the past week. Timely rain will persist during the coming week and maintain a good environment for the summer crops.

Canada Prairies Morning Patches Of Frost Have Low Impact

Kansas City, August 8 (World Weather Inc.) – A cold airmass associated with an upper-level disturbance spread across the Canadian Prairies this week dropping temperatures below normal with pockets in Saskatchewan cooling low enough for some patches of frost to develop in the south-central and northwestern Saskatchewan today. Cool-biased conditions will persist during the next few days with patchy frost again possible in Saskatchewan and western Manitoba. Minor damage will be possible in a few pockets, though no production losses are expected. In the meantime, dryness remains a concern, especially in Alberta and Saskatchewan. The Prairies will have several opportunities for rain this weekend into next week with additional rain likely during the second week of the outlook; however, the driest locations from central and southern Alberta into western and Saskatchewan will miss out on the most significant rain during the next seven days. The dry bias is hurting some yield potentials.
