Southeast Europe Will Continue To Dry Down; Crops At Risk

Kansas City, August 14 (World Weather Inc.) – Southeastern Europe and portions of France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom trended drier than normal during the past month. Rainfall in the most recent seven-day period was limited for much of the continent’s main production areas and aggressive drying was noted with temperatures well above normal in more recent days in the southeast. While Western Europe and portions of Poland and the Baltic States will receive much-needed rain through the middle of next week, southeastern Europe will remain drier and warmer than normal. Additional drying is expected and moisture stress will become an increasing concern across the region.

World Cotton Weather For August 14, 2024

Kansas City, August 14 (World Weather Inc.) – Weather conditions in most of the cotton production areas around the world are largely good which may help explain the commodity market trades in recent weeks. India and Pakistan weather has improved after some concern over early season cotton that was subjected to some incredible heat earlier this year. Xinjiang, China has had weather conditions good enough to support high yields and the outlook in the United States has been a little more mixed. Harvest conditions in southern Texas have been good while boll sizes in California and Arizona may be down a bit because of this year’s excessive heat. West Texas dryland crops in the southwest never got off to a good start and may have been largely written off. Hurricane Debby was not very kind to production areas from northeastern Florida to North Carolina, but the storm’s damage did miss some very important acreage in Georgia and Alabama.
