Ukraine, SW Russia Warming To Enhance Crop, Livestock Stress

Kansas City, August 15 (World Weather Inc.) – Milder-than-usual temperatures occurred for brief periods of time this week in the very dry areas of Russia’s Southern Region, western Kazakhstan and eastern Ukraine which reduced moisture stress along with a few showers, but the region is still too dry. Warming is predicted in this coming week and above normal temperatures will prevail for up to ten days while rainfall is minimal leading to increasing crop and livestock stress. Some of the area impacted by inclement conditions will expand to the west and north. In the meantime, another round to abundant rain and more cool weather will maintain some concern over the Russian New Lands’ spring wheat and sunseed. Dryness will be good for winter crop maturation and harvesting, but may pressure late spring and summer yields a little lower.

Eastern Australia Received Timely Rain; More Needed

Kansas City, August 15 (World Weather Inc.) – Queensland and New South Wales received much-needed rain during the past week. Rainfall was unable to completely fix the dryness and more is needed in the near future, most notably in Queensland. Winter wheat and barley normally begin reproducing in September in Queensland and northern New South Wales, which will increase the need for rain. However, these locations will see drier weather return during the coming week. The need for rain will again increase heading into early September. Western Australia and Victoria have ample moisture to support a good outlook for the winter wheat, barley, and canola, although reproduction in those areas tends to occur in October. Alternating periods of rain and sunshine during the coming week will continue to support favorable crop prospects.
