U.S. Midwest Spotty Rain Beneficial For Late-Season Growth

Kansas City, August 28 (World Weather Inc.) – Rainfall varied across the U.S. Midwest during the past week with much of the Ohio River Basin and portions of Iowa and southern Wisconsin and Minnesota receiving little to no rain. Other locations saw a good mix of rain and sunshine. Corn and soybean conditions remained generally favorable. However, some corn deterioration was noted in portions of Ohio and neighboring locations as the ground dried down. Rain and thunderstorms will evolve across the Midwest during the next few days before drier weather evolves later this weekend into the middle of next week. The rain will help maintain relatively favorable conditions for late-season corn and soybean growth. Early-season maturation conditions will also improve or remain favorable across the region. Yields are expected to be favorable this season with a bumper soybean crop possible.

Typhoon Shanshan To Bring Torrential Rain To Japan

Kansas City, August 26 (World Weather Inc.) – Typhoon Shanshan continued its slow progression across the western Pacific Ocean over the weekend. The disturbance will slowly track over Japan’s Ryukyu Islands later today into Wednesday before slowly advancing northeasterly across the main islands of Japan later this week. Kyushu, Shikoku, and southern Honshu will experience torrential rain and damaging wind speeds from the storm. Rice and citrus crops (among a few others) may be impacted by the storm as will infrastructure and personal property depending on the intensity of the storm and the path it takes.
