U.S. Plains Wheat, Livestock Face A very Dry Month

Kansas City, October 2 (World Weather Inc.) – Beneficial rain fell across a part of the central U.S. Plains during mid-September bolstering soil moisture for improved early season wheat planting and establishment conditions. Grazing grass conditions also improved; however, temperatures were quite warm in late September and precipitation diminished leading to rapid drying. Today’s moisture profile is quite poor and there is no potential for significant rain through the next two weeks. Rainfall in the second half of the month will likely be below normal as well unless tropical moisture flows into the region.

Europe Rain Will Slow, Delay Fieldwork; Flooding Possible

Kansas City, October 2 (World Weather Inc.) – Harvesting advanced slowly in portions of Europe during the past week due to frequent rainfall. Several areas in Western Europe are excessively wet and in need of drier weather to improve harvest prospects. However, a series of disturbances will continue to generate rain on a frequent basis through the middle of next week. Remnants of Hurricane Kirk could even enhance rainfall for portions of Western Europe toward the middle of next week. Yields have already been reduced due to adverse conditions earlier this year and last autumn when the winter crops were being planted. Further quality declines will be a concern and harvesting will continue to advance slowly.
