Russia, Ukraine And Kazakhstan Drought Relief Limited

Kansas City, November 8 (World Weather Inc.) – Recent rain and snow that fell across the western Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS or Former Soviet Union) was welcome and may have helped improve root and tiller development in some wheat, barley and rye production areas of Russia’s Southern Region and western Kazakhstan. However, the moisture has come very late in the season and soil temperatures are not ideal enough for dramatic crop improvement. Additional warm weather with well above normal temperatures and periods of rain are needed to improve crop establishment, but with a low sun angle, limited hours of daylight and cool nighttime temperatures the odds are not good for much improvement until spring. Eastern Ukraine crop areas experienced no relief.
