Northwest Africa In Need Of Rain For Winter Crops

Kansas City, November 20 (World Weather Inc.) – Early-season planting of winter wheat, barley, and rapeseed is likely underway across northwestern Africa. Planting conditions have been less than ideal due to limited soil moisture and rainfall in recent weeks across portions of Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. In this past week, rain was mostly confined to portions of Morocco, although only a small part of crop country came up with significant precipitation. Algeria and Tunisia were mostly dry. Precipitation will remain limited for at least the next seven days and conditions will remain far from ideal. The need for rain will increase in December and early January when the rest of the crops usually go into the ground.

U.S. November Weather Improves Wheat Prospects

Kansas City, November 20 (World Weather Inc.) – Waves of significant rain and some snow from the southwestern U.S. Plains through most of the Midwest this month has notably improved soil moisture and drought conditions. Portions of Colorado and southwestern Nebraska remain a little dry to support ideal long-term conditions, though the outlook is much improved compared to the beginning of planting season. The region will trend drier biased through the middle of next week, which will be beneficial for any late-season planting and fieldwork. The Midwest also has ample moisture that will be beneficial for winter wheat establishment after a drier than usual month of October.
