Central South Africa To Receive Much-Needed Rain

Kansas City, December 17 (World Weather Inc.) – Rain in South Africa’s key grain, oilseed and cotton production areas this past week was most significant in the east and some southern areas. Much of the precipitation was lighter than usual, but it managed to maintain a mostly favorable crop development environment. Farther to the northwest, however, weather conditions remained mostly dry and warm to hot resulting in more crop stress. Much of Free State and Northwest have recorded much less than usual rainfall since the planting season began resulting in poor germination, emergence and establishment in unirrigated fields. Some of irrigated crops are not in the best shape either. Rain is expected in most of South Africa’s summer crop areas during the coming ten days, although relief from dryness in the northwest will only be temporary and follow up rain will be needed.

Weekly Citrus Weather for Tuesday, December 17, 2024

Kansas City, December 17 (World Weather Inc.) – Florida’s citrus region saw sporadic rain combined with brief periods of cool weather during the past week. No damaging conditions were noted and harvesting advanced around the precipitation. The region will again have opportunities for rain in the coming days that may further slow or delay the harvest. Brazil’s citrus areas received rain on a frequent basis during the past week and more of the same was expected in this coming week keeping crop conditions rated favorably. Mexico will experience unusually wet weather during the coming week that may slow harvest progress, most notably in Veracruz.
