India Flooding Likely Due To Tropical Cyclone 01B

Kansas City, September 23 (World Weather Inc.) – Uneven rainfall this season has had varying impacts for crops grown across India. Overall, monsoonal rain has been below normal with the national moisture deficit down 15% of normal and agricultural production is expected to trend lower than usual as well. The greatest moisture deficits have been in the east and southern parts of the nation where rainfall has been 26% and 28% below the norm. With that said, though, the most routine and frequent rain seems to have occurred in central and eastern crop areas where crop production may be close to normal along with some areas in the far northwest. India will be impacted by Tropical Cyclone 01B as it slowly moves into the eastern half of the country through the end of the weekend. Waves of rain will likely promote flooding and some crop damage from Odisha and northeastern Andhra Pradesh into Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and eastern Madhya Pradesh. In the meantime, northwestern India will remain drier biased through the end of the month, although it is normal for monsoonal rain to withdraw from the region at this time of year.

U.S. Hard Red Wheat Areas To Receive Much-Needed Rain

Kansas City, September 23 (World Weather Inc.) – Hard red winter wheat planting is underway for the U.S. central and southern Plains. Much of the planting region is abnormally dry or under the influence of drought with much of Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle dealing with extreme or exceptional drought. Waves of rain are slated for these areas through the middle of next week. While rainfall will be too light to break the drought, short-term establishment conditions will improve. The rain will otherwise slow or delay the maturation and early season harvest of summer crops. Western sections of the U.S. Corn and Soybean Belt will also see waves of rain that will often slow or delay maturation and harvesting.

Southern Philippines, Portions Of Thailand See Dryness Relief

Kansas City, September 23 (World Weather Inc.) – Despite many areas in Thailand, southern Philippines, and neighboring locations receiving less than usual rainfall since the start of the month, there was enough rain to improve the moisture profile in areas that were previously dry. The rain helped support more aggressive growth for all kinds of crops; including grains, oilseeds, rice, sugarcane, tree crops, and any other crops produced this time of year. Waves of monsoonal rain will prevail over mainland Southeast Asia and much of the Philippines during the coming week. Additional rain will further bolster soil moisture and support better late-season growth for the main season crops. Planting prospects for next season’s crops will also improve or remain relatively favorable.

Kansas City, September 22 (World Weather Inc.) – Florida’s citrus areas once again saw several waves of rain during the past week. Alternating periods of rain and sunshine are slated for these areas during the coming week, which will maintain a good environment for new growth. Mexico’s citrus areas saw a good mix of monsoonal rain and sunshine during the past week. Additional rain in the coming days will also maintain favorable citrus conditions. Brazil’s citrus areas received variable rain in recent weeks. The main areas will see a good mix of rain and sunshine that will promote relatively good flowering.
