Evening U.S. And South America Weather Update For October 15, 2026

 The removal of rain in the southern U.S. Plains during the Oct. 27-31 period was a very badly needed change. Once that feature was removed the forecast was relatively similar to some of the previous model runs, but World Weather, Inc. would not be surprised to see other changes in future model runs.

In South America, the evening GFS model forecast was similar to that of previous model runs, although the precipitation advertised for center south Brazil Oct. 27-28 was certainly overdone. The bottom line remains mostly good for South America, although Argentina may dry down for a little while. Sufficient rain will fall in center west and some interior northeastern Brazil locations to support planting, emergence and some establishment of summer crops; though, there will be need for greater rain in some of these areas later this season.

Argentina’s cooler than usual weather coming up over the next ten days will help conserve soil moisture while precipitation is limited keeping soil and crop conditions rated favorably.

South Africa In Growing Need Of Rain As Planting Approaches

Kansas City, October 15 (World Weather Inc.) – Wetter or even much wetter than usual conditions were noted in a large section of South Africa in September. The rain was welcome for more aggressive winter wheat development as the main production areas had previously been drying down a little too much. Conditions since October turned drier and warmer, which was welcome for the early-planted wheat that was maturing and getting ready for harvest. Now that the country has been steadily drying down, the need for rain is again increasing. Planting of summer crops usually begins in October. Several production areas are too dry for ideal planting and establishment, which may keep producers from planting a significant amount of crop in the near future. With little or no precipitation expected for at least another week, the main summer crop areas will continue to dry down. The need for significant rain will increase late this month into November to improve establishment and early-season development. Wheat maturation and harvest conditions will otherwise be favorable.
