India Faces More Flood Potential As Monsoon Remains Active

Kansas City, August 20 (World Weather Inc.) – India, Pakistan and many areas in Southeast Asia have been impacted by periodic excessive rain events in recent weeks as this year’s monsoon has been strong. Flooding has occurred recently in northern Pakistan, northern India, along the central west coast of India and most recently in eastern Maharashtra. The active monsoon will continue with additional heavy rain expected in Gujarat and northwestern Maharashtra into Wednesday followed by a new monsoon low that will evolve in the Bay of Bengal and advance through the heart of India later this week into next week. The low pressure system will see to it that more flooding rain occurs in parts of the nation. In the meantime, southern India is expected move back into a drier than usual pattern similar to that which prevailed early in the monsoon season. Flooding will continue to induce local areas of crop and property damage and some death to livestock and humans; however, overall summer crop production potentials remain favorable across the country.

Precipitation in northeastern Mexico will be well-timed and will maintain a good outlook for most crops. Brazil’s citrus areas will be seasonally dry and farming activity should advance swiftly.

Canada Prairies Frost Threat Evolving This Weekend

Kansas City, August 19 (World Weather Inc.) – An unusually large and cold airmass moving south from the arctic late this week and into the weekend will bring temperatures down below normal in much of Canada’s central and eastern Prairies and into the north central United States. The cold air will bring “soft” frost to parts of the Prairies and a few light freezes cannot be ruled out as a possibility. Today’s computer forecast models may be overdoing the intensity of the cold, although the risk of soft frost is going to be moderately high. Freezes may be more difficult to accomplish, although the situation will be closely monitored over the next few days.
