Ukraine, Russia Rain To Benefit Winter Crops

Kansas City, October 8 (World Weather Inc.) – Several locations in Ukraine, the main winter grain and oilseed areas in Russia, and western Kazakhstan are too dry to support aggressive establishment. These areas are in need of significant rain to not only improve establishment, but also support better long-term production potentials. These areas will see a good mix of rain and sunshine through the middle of next week that will bolster soil moisture. However, additional rain will be needed to completely fix the moisture deficits. Winter grains and oilseeds will still react favorably to the rain.

China’s Central Yellow River Basin Will Remain Wet

Kansas City, October 8 (World Weather Inc.) – China’s central Yellow River Basin and North China Plain have been dealing with excessive moisture for a while. Late September rainfall was well above normal near and south of the Yellow River and over the past week the wet weather bias has been shifting northward expanding the area of excessive soil moisture throughout the entire river basin and parts of the North China Plain. Rainy weather will continue mostly near and north of the river through the coming weekend while less rain occurs to the south, but harvesting of summer crops and planting of winter wheat will remain on hold for a while with some concern over summer crop quality. Drier weather is expected next week. In the meantime, excessive soil moisture is also dominating southwestern China while the southeast is seeing favorable harvest conditions.
