SE Europe Gets Drought Easing Rain That Delays Harvest

Kansas City, October 9 (World Weather Inc.) – Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, and several neighboring locations reported significant rain during the past week. The rain delayed the summer crop harvest while also impacting crop quality; however, the moisture was desperately needed for dryland winter crops in the lower Danube River Basin that had been dealing with drought during much of the planting season. Other locations in Europe outside France and the Iberian Peninsula saw a mix of rain and sunshine. Drought is ongoing in portions of France and the need for significant rain remains high. A large section of Europe outside portions of Ukraine, Belarus and the Baltic States will trend drier than normal during the coming week leaving western and southern parts of France drought stricken and in desperate need for rain. Harvest conditions will improve in the wettest locations of southeastern Europe once the ground has a chance to firm.

India Harvest Weather To Improve Central, North

Kansas City, October 9 (World Weather Inc.) – Rain continued to be scattered across India during the past seven days, although central and northern areas finally saw the unsettled weather come to an end earlier this workweek. Some of the rain was a little too much for crops that were mature and waiting to be harvested with some quality declines suspected in cotton, rice and pulse production areas. In contrast, the rain was welcome for late season crops that were still in various stages of development. Eastern and southern India will continue to receive periods of rain during the coming week that may continue to impact harvesting while other production areas (mostly in the central and north) finally start to dry down as drier and warm weather either prevails or evolves. Maturation and harvesting will advance faster once the ground has a chance to firm.

Canada Eastern Prairies To See Weekend Snowstorm

Kansas City, October 9 (World Weather Inc.) – Weather conditions will be changing across North America during the weekend and next week. The initial change will bring a strong cold airmass into western Canada that will run into some unusually warm conditions in central parts of North America at the same time a moisture feed of significance arrives. This combination will result in the season’s first significant snow event in agricultural areas of North America favoring Saskatchewan and a part of Manitoba, Canada. Fieldwork will be brought to a standstill and livestock stress will result along with some travel delays. Neighboring areas of Montana and northwestern North Dakota might also see a little snow, but this will mostly be a Canada storm system.
