Russia, Ukraine Winter Crops Heading Toward Dormancy

Kansas City, November 19 (World Weather Inc.) – Despite warmer-than-usual temperatures during the past week, the ground is becoming too cold to support new growth in the former Soviet Union winter grain and oilseed areas. Portions of Ukraine and Russia’s USDA defined ‘Southern Region’ are generally the only areas that may be warm enough to support minor growth. The ‘Southern Region’ and portions of the Volga River Basin into western Kazakhstan still have minor moisture shortages and timely precipitation will be needed by spring to ensure a good start to the 2026 growing season. Other locations have ample moisture to support relatively favorable long-term production potentials.

Tropical Cyclone Fina To Impact Northern Australia

Kansas City, November 19 (World Weather Inc.) – Tropical Cyclone Fina was located over the Arafura Sea, just north of Australia earlier today. The disturbance will gradually track into Northern Territory, Australia by 1200 GMT Friday bringing heavy rain and damaging wind to Darwin and neighboring areas. The disturbance will then shift southwesterly along the northern Australia coastline, but will weaken significantly before approaching Port Hedlund, Western Australia. Crop impacts will be minimal. However, ocean travel and ports in the Darwin area may be impacted.
