U.S. Rain To Slow Harvest, Benefit Wheat; Cotton Quality Risk

Kansas City, November 20 (World Weather Inc.) – U.S. rainfall during the past week was just enough to benefit some of the soft wheat produced in the lower Midwest. The moisture briefly disrupted late season summer crop harvesting as well, but the delays were not long lasting. California crops experienced the greatest and most prolonged rainfall raising some concern over cotton quality and some of that moisture is expected to stream into the southern Plains periodically into next week. Additional moisture is also anticipated for the lower Midwest, Delta and Tennessee River Basin in this coming week resulting in additional field working delays while improving long term soil moisture. Winter wheat establishment prior to dormancy will have some chance to improve because of the moisture, although time is running out before cold air overtakes some of the production areas. Cotton quality concerns will shift from California and Arizona to parts of West Texas during this period.

South Africa Planting Weather Remains Mostly Favorable

Kansas City, November 20 (World Weather Inc.) – The main coarse grain, oilseed, and cotton areas in South Africa saw a good mix of rain and sunshine during the past week. The moisture helped improve soil conditions; though, additional rain was needed to more completely restore soil moisture to normal after the long winter dry season. The eastern half of the country will see a mix of erratic rain and sunshine during the coming week. Planting will advance swiftly around the rain. Establishment and early-season crop development conditions will remain relatively good as well, although some western areas may need some greater rain in December. In the meantime, winter wheat, barley and canola harvesting should also have advanced well during the past week with more of the same likely in the west.
