Eastern Australia Heat Wave Abates; Rain Still Needed

Kansas City, January 13 (World Weather Inc.) – Eastern Australia’s unirrigated summer coarse grain, oilseed, and cotton areas continue to struggle with moisture deficits. Rainfall was near to below normal in most locations in recent weeks and the rain that did fall was not enough to fix moisture deficits. A strong heat wave also impacted much of the country during the past week with daytime highs climbing well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit at times. The combination of excessive heat and dryness stressed livestock and especially unirrigated crops. Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria will have a few opportunities for rain during the coming week; though the resulting moisture will be too light to fix long term dryness and plant stress will continue serious in unirrigated areas of the west.
Weekly Citrus Weather For Tuesday, January 13, 2026
Kansas City, January 13 (World Weather Inc.) – Precipitation was limited in Florida during the past week and only brief periods of light rain will occur during the coming week. The ongoing harvest will advance swiftly around the rain. A cold front will help promote frost and light freezes Friday morning. Pockets in the northern fringes of crop country may cool as low as 28 degrees Fahrenheit while patchy frost and light freezes are possible farther south. Spray irrigation will likely help protect citrus and overall impacts should be minimal. Brazil’s citrus areas received minimal rain during the past week. Precipitation will occur on a more frequent basis during the coming week and should maintain favorable citrus conditions. Mexico’s citrus producers will likely continue the harvest between periods of spotty rain during the coming week.
Florida Citrus To See Frost, Light Freezes Friday

Kansas City, January 13 (World Weather Inc.) – A strong upper-level trough of low pressure will intensify and expand over eastern North America in the coming days. The trough will help send colder air across the eastern United States through the end of the workweek with cold air reaching Florida by Friday morning. This cold front will help promote frost and light freezes for portions of Florida’s citrus and other fruit and vegetable growing areas. Northern fringes of citrus country could see temperatures drop as low as 28 degrees Fahrenheit for brief periods of time while only patchy frost is expected farther south. Spray irrigation will likely be used to protect citrus ahead of the cold front. Overall production impacts should be minimal for Florida’s citrus.
