Morocco, Algeria Rain Improves Crop Health Compared to 2025

Kansas City, January 14 (World Weather Inc.) – The moisture situation for northwestern Africa, Morocco in particular, remains much-improved compared to recent years as waves of rain were noted in recent weeks. Morocco suffered from years of drought (mostly in the southwest) that severely reduced winter grain and oilseed outputs. This year’s abundant early season rain has improved production prospects. Other parts of northern Africa’s wheat and barley production region has experienced mostly favorable weather conditions, although greater rain is needed in Tunisia and northeastern Algeria away from the coast. The main production areas will see a good mix of rain and sunshine through the middle of next week. Precipitation will favor central Morocco while other locations generally receive light rain. The environment will remain favorable for late-season planting, crop establishment, and general development.

Middle East Moisture Situation Improving

Kansas City, January 14 (World Weather Inc.) – Severe drought evolved in 2025 for portions of the Middle East, notable in Iraq, Iran, Syria and southeastern Turkey. Moisture shortages and low water storage levels impacted planting and establishment prospects for winter crops and were raising concern for spring crops dependent upon either rainfall or irrigation water. While much-needed precipitation was noted during the past month, there are still several locations still struggling with significant moisture deficits. Crop conditions improved where precipitation was greatest and overall yield potentials likely increased. Eastern Turkey into northern Iraq and portions of Iran will again see timely precipitation through the middle of next week that will further improve the moisture situation. As long as timely rain persists later this winter, crop prospects will improve.
