Florida Freezes, Strong U.S. Heating Demand Into Next Week

Kansas City, Jan. 28 (World Weather Inc.) – A reinforcing surge of arctic air is developing and will be moving south from Canada later this week. With so much snow and sleet coverage present across the Midwest, northern Delta, Kansas, and Oklahoma, the cold air mass will not be able to moderate quite as much as it would otherwise when it moves south. This will help lead to significant cold anomalies across the southern U.S. again late Friday into Tuesday. Hard freezes are expected down into southern Texas, the Gulf of America coast and down into interior southern Florida. Crops at risk of more damage include sugarcane and citrus. Temperatures in Florida are likely to be the coldest of the season so far and heating fuel demand will remain very strong through early next week. Eastern parts of North America may see additional cold later in February; though, this weekend’s outbreak will be most intense.

Northern India Received Significant Rain; More Will Fall Today

Kansas City, January 27 (World Weather Inc.) – Western disturbances brought much-needed precipitation to northern India and Pakistan in recent days. Precipitation was limited earlier in the winter before the recent rainfall helped bolster soil moisture and water storage levels. The rain was needed as many rabi grains, oilseeds, pulses, and other crops reproduce in February. A disturbance will continue to generate additional rain in northern India and several neighboring locations today. Spotty precipitation will prevail for the remainder of the coming week as well. Overall crop conditions will improve or remain favorable in far northern India while the need for significant rain continues in most other areas in the nation.

Weekly Citrus Weather For Tuesday, January 27, 2026

Kansas City, January 27 (World Weather Inc.) – A pool of arctic air will slowly make its way across eastern North America during the coming week. This air mass will drop temperatures below or well below normal for Florida’s citrus country with nighttime lows dropping into the 20s Fahrenheit Sunday into early next week. This bout of cold air will bring with it some of the coldest conditions to occur in Florida this winter season and may damage some of the unprotected crops. In Brazil, several locations in Sao Paulo and southwestern Minas Gerais were dry during the past week. However, rain will return during the coming week and main a good outlook for the citrus. Many areas in northeastern Mexico also experienced frost and light freezes this morning. Minor damage was possible in areas that did take precautions ahead of the cold.
