Florida Citrus Impacted By Hard Freeze Feb. 1 & 2

Kansas City, February 2 (World Weather Inc.) – No surprises occurred in Florida citrus areas Sunday or Monday with low temperatures dropping well below freezing throughout the state’s primary citrus belt and in some sugarcane areas. Damage to crops was suspected; although, an assessment of loss will take weeks especially since some of the impact will be on blossom buds that have yet to open. Unharvested fruit may have been impacted along with a considerable amount of leaf loss. Spray irrigation and other methods were used in an attempt to protect the crop from permanent damage, but it will be unclear for a while just how severe the freeze was on production.
