Brazil Harvest May Be Impacted By Heavier Rain

Kansas City, February 2 (World Weather Inc.) – Harvesting is underway for some of the earliest planted soybeans, first-season corn, and other crops in Brazil. The main production areas saw a mix of erratic rain and sunshine during the past week, which allowed for aggressive maturation and harvesting at times. Center-south and center-west Brazil will have more opportunities for rain this week that will significantly bolster soil moisture. Waves of rain may disrupt the harvest and general fieldwork as well, most notably in Minas Gerais, and Goias into Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, and neighboring locations. Early-season safrinha corn planting may also advance slowly due to the wet conditions, though the rain will improve long-term production potentials. Parana and northeastern Brazil will see a good mix of rain and sunshine this week while other areas in southern Brazil are drier than usual.

Much Of Argentina Dries; Crop Conditions Vary

Kansas City, February 2 (World Weather Inc.) – A large part of Argentina has experienced net drying conditions during the past week. The exception was in northwestern parts of the nation areas from Santiago del Estero into Salta received some moderate to heavy rainfall. Most of the showers and thunderstorms noted in the heart of grain and oilseed country produced rain that was too light to counter evaporation resulting in additional drying and a rise in crop moisture stress. Some areas in the Pampas region have been too dry for too long and are losing production potentials while other areas still have sufficient subsoil moisture to carry on normal crop development. Precipitation this week will remain erratically distributed with Cordoba, La Pampa, and neighboring areas benefiting most. Crop areas from central Argentina into Uruguay and parts of Buenos Aires will not get much moisture and will continue to experience moisture stress.
