South Africa Rain May Disrupt Harvest During Next Few Days

Kansas City, April 30 (World Weather Inc.) – Periodic rain during the past week continued to support a good environment for the late-season coarse grains, oilseeds, and cotton that are still growing in South Africa. Maturation and early-season harvesting likely advanced around the rain as well. A disturbance will promote significant rain in portions of South Africa today that may disrupt the harvest. Quality impacts should be minimal. Spotty rain will also occur for portions of crop country next week, though no major harvest delays are expected. Yield potentials will remain favorable. Early-season winter wheat and barley planting will likely advance swiftly around periods of rain in the coming weeks as well. Establishment conditions will be relatively favorable for much of western and central South Africa.

Western Europe To Receive Well-Timed Precipitation

Kansas City, April 30 (World Weather Inc.) – France, the United Kingdom, portions of eastern Spain, Portugal and the north half of Italy received below normal precipitation in April leading to the firming of soil in many areas. Net drying also occurred from the northern and central Balkan Countries through Poland to parts of Scandinavia. The drying bias was great for fieldwork, although recent cool temperatures in the east half of Europe lowered soil temperatures below the optimum threshold for new crop germination, emergence and establishment. A shift in weather will promote waves of rain for Western Europe for at least the next ten days to two weeks. The moisture will be sufficient to bolster soil moisture in the driest areas, improving conditions for winter and spring crops. In the meantime, several locations in eastern Europe will experience additional below normal precipitation leading to additional drying and raising the need for timely later in May.

World Cotton Weather For April 30, 2026

Kansas City, April 30 (World Weather, Inc.) – Winter weather in the United States created drought of varying degrees of significance across its cotton production areas. Dryness reached a peak about ten days ago and since then many Delta and Texas cotton areas have either received rain or soon will. The same is expected for the southeastern U.S. while South Texas and northeastern Mexico will stay dry for quite a while along with the southwestern desert region of the U.S. In the meantime, cotton development and production potentials are high in Brazil while reductions in production are anticipated for Australia, China and Pakistan. The jury is still out on India’s cotton production this year since El Nino’s behavior will have much to say about the situation. Argentina crops have suffered a quality decline because or rain and the same may happen to a part of the South Africa crop due to rain during its harvest.
