Storm Bashes California With High Wind, Flooding

Kansas City, February 5 (World Weather Inc.) – A very intense storm impacted California Sunday and overnight as expected and it will continue to have a big impact on the state into Tuesday. Property damage has occurred in many areas and with another day of storminess expected the impact is likely to rise further.

Argentina, SW Brazil To Get Some Showers; More Rain Needed

Kansas City, February 4 (World Weather Inc.) – Argentina soil moisture has reached a critical level and significant rain must begin falling soon to protect summer crop production. Stress up until now has not had a permanent impact, but any continuation of dry and hot weather could cut into production. Some of the dryness has creeped over the border through Paraguay and into southwestern Brazil, although dryness there is not nearly as serious as that in Argentina. Rain is expected in some areas this week and again next week, but it may take a while for generalized rain to evolve.

NW Africa Will Remain Drier Biased Into Next Week

Kansas City, February 2 (World Weather Inc.) – Southwestern and northeastern Morocco into northwestern Algeria remain too dry to support favorable winter wheat, barley or rapeseed development; though crops are still semi-dormant. Ongoing dryness has reduced production potentials in some areas and the need for rain is high. Continued dryness may more significantly yields this season, but greatly improved rainfall could still prove to be beneficial for some areas. Tunisia and other production areas in Algeria and Morocco have received enough rain so far this season to support generally good conditions; though several areas further away from the coasts are drying down too much. A high-pressure ridge will continue to limit precipitation through at least the middle of next week across northwestern Africa. However, rain potentials will increase later next week into next weekend as a strong low-pressure trough advances over Western Europe and northwestern Africa. The rain will be welcome and will either improve crop conditions or continue to support good development. Additional rain will be possible toward mid-month.

India To Receive Some Rain; More Will Be Needed

Kansas City, February 2 (World Weather Inc.) – A weather disturbance brought much-needed rain to northern and portions of eastern India in recent days. Rainfall was too light to significantly improve the moisture profile, but supplemented irrigation and was overall beneficial for the rabi crops. Other locations in India were again mostly dry during the past week. The need for rain remains high across the driest locations in western, central, and northern India due to the lack of moisture in January. Another weather disturbance will bring rain from northern India, Rajasthan, northern Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh into eastern India through the first part of next week. Rainfall will be beneficial for rabi crops; though, more rain will still be needed to ensure ideal crop conditions. Seasonable to seasonably warm weather is slated for much of the country through mid-February. No excessive heat is expected.
