Argentina Soil Firms Up Again; Rain Needed Soon

Kansas City, February 20 (World Weather Inc.) – Much of Argentina’s crop country was dry during the past week. The lack of rain and warm daytime temperatures promoted aggressive drying. Most locations still had some moisture to support new growth, though the need for rain is steadily rising once again. A lack of hot weather during the past week limited crop stress and conserved soil moisture. Production potentials remain well above last year’s numbers due to timely precipitation and the easing of long term drought. Argentina’s main production areas will see a mix of erratic rainfall and sunshine during the coming week to ten days that will help maintain generally good crop development conditions with most yield potentials unlikely to change.

Brazil Soil Moisture To Be Closely Monitored Next Few Weeks

Kansas City, February 20 (World Weather Inc.) – Brazil’s soil moisture is rated quite favorably in much of the nation, but may be a little light in some western areas, despite recent rainfall. Main season summer crop development will continue to advance favorably due to the mostly good moisture profile and rain that is forthcoming, but there is some potential that the ground many not be fully saturated in Safrinha crop areas when the rainy season ends in April and that could present a little concern for late planted corn and cotton. Until then, crop development should advance well, although some concern will remain for portions of Mato Grosso do Sul where moisture is lightest today and where rainfall may continue lightest for a while.
