Russia Drier Than Normal Weather Good For Snow Melt

Kansas City, March 19 (World Weather Inc.) – A large section of the western Commonwealth of Independent States’ winter grain and oilseed areas trended drier than normal during the past month. The drier biased environment was actually welcome as many areas had abundant snowpack on top of already wet soil. Snowmelt in recent weeks helped reduce flood potentials for portions of Russia, though the threat for severe flooding persists in the wettest fields. The drier than normal environment will persist for Russia during the coming week. Snow melt rates will gradually increase as warmer air slowly settles over the region. Flooding will be a concern in the wettest locations and could limit early-season fieldwork. Winter wheat, barley, rye, and rapeseed production potentials will remain favorable across the region. Spring planting may begin sluggishly due to the potential for flooding due to melting snow and areas of standing water in the coming weeks.

Weekly Citrus Weather For March 19, 2024

Kansas City, March 19 (World Weather Inc.) – Florida’s citrus region was mostly dry during the past week. Blooming and development conditions were generally favorable as irrigation was used across the state. A disturbance will bring timely rain to the region later this week that will help bolster soil moisture. Hail and strong wind speeds cannot be ruled out and may damage fruit or limbs, though overall production impacts should be minimal. In Brazil, the main citrus areas received enough rain to maintain generally good citrus development this past week. More significant rain is expected during the coming week and should help improve soil moisture. The need for abundant rainfall remains high in order to support a better outlook for the upcoming season. Portions of east-central and northeastern Mexico will receive some rain during the coming week that will alleviate a minor amount of dryness. However, much more rain is needed across the main citrus areas to support more favorable citrus development.
