Southeast Canada 7-Day Weather Outlook for Thursday, March 21, 2024

A strong upper-level trough over central Canada will impact weather for southeastern Canada’s main production areas through the end of the weekend. Isolated snow flurries will evolve today most notably between the Great Lakes. A disturbance tracking around the trough will bring snow to much of the region Friday and Saturday with accumulations ranging from 5 to over 10 centimeters. High pressure will then build over the region and promote drier weather Sunday. The close proximity of the trough will promote colder than normal conditions for much of the region during this time. Daytime highs will struggle to climb more than a degree or two above freezing.

Upper U.S. Midwest Moisture Boost To Come With A Price

Kansas City, March 21 (World Weather Inc.) – As noted late last week, relief will occur to dryness in the upper Midwest and the eastern northern U.S. Plains during the next five days. The moisture, however, will come with a price as excessive wind develops this weekend across the Great Plains causing blowing dust and inducing some structural damage as well as threatening high profile vehicles traveling across the region. There will also be excessive snow and blowing snow in the upper Midwest with road closures and a serious threat to livestock due to snowfall that will vary from 8 to 20 inches and locally more. The moisture boost will be ideal for use later this spring, but in the meantime, commerce will be disrupted. Power Outages are likely and transportation may come to a standstill in some areas.

Queensland Rain Will Be Beneficial For Late-Season Growth

Kansas City, March 20 (World Weather Inc.) – New South Wales and Victoria received timely rain during the past week that was beneficial for aggressive late-season coarse grain, oilseed, and cotton development. Queensland otherwise missed out on the rain and remained too dry to support late-season development for the summer crops in unirrigated fields. Production potentials remain favorable for eastern Australia’s summer crops this season, though dryness in recent weeks may have hurt production potentials in the driest locations of Queensland. New South Wales and Victoria will now trend drier biased through the middle of next week while Queensland experiences a good mix of rain and sunshine. Late-season crop development will either improve or remain favorable.
