SE Argentina Storms Damage Grains, Oilseeds

Kansas City, March 25 (World Weather Inc.) – A series of storms that negatively impacted southeastern Argentina’s Pampas farming region earlier this month ended in the past seven days. Heavy rain and hail were the primary factors that damaged or destroyed some of the soybeans, corn, rice and other crops. The most severe weather occurred in Entre Rio, northeastern Buenos Aires, Uruguay and western and southern Rio Grande do Sul, and neighboring locations where some of the most significant losses resulted. Argentina will see a mix of rain and sunshine this week with some of the most significant rain occurring over the coming weekend. The lack of abundant rain in the next few days and the drier weather noted during this past weekend will be beneficial for firming up the soil and improving late season crop and field conditions.

Mato Grosso do Sul Dryness To Persist; Need For Rain High

Kansas City, March 25 (World Weather Inc.) – Several areas in Mato Grosso do Sul and pockets in Mato Grosso experienced warmer than normal conditions combined with limited rainfall during the past week. Soil moisture remains short to very short and the need for rain is high in order to support ideal long-term Safrinha corn conditions. Mato Grosso do Sul will again receive limited rainfall this week and moisture shortages will persist. Safrinha corn production may be reduced if late-season rainfall fails. Other locations in Brazil received enough rain to support generally favorable Safrinha corn planting, establishment, and early-season development conditions. Parana will trend drier this week and will need a boost in rain soon. Soil moisture and rainfall elsewhere will continue supportive of most crop and farming needs.
