Mexico Drought To Persist Despite Rain In East

Kansas City, April 24 (World Weather Inc.) – Drought in Mexico continues quite significantly as it has since the failure of last summer’s monsoon. Drier and warmer biased conditions have dominated recent weeks and unirrigated winter crops may not yield well. Some of the early spring crops are also struggling with dryness, though many of these early season crops are irrigated. Water supply should be below to well below normal. Abundant rain is needed in coming weeks and months to improve production potentials for the upcoming season. No change in drought status is likely until this year’s monsoonal moisture begins which is probably going to be in mid- to late-May and June

Southern Russia To Kazakhstan See Accelerated Drying

Kansas City, April 24 (World Weather Inc.) – A high-pressure ridge common in years of El Nino to La Nina transition in Russia helped limit precipitation and promote warmer than normal weather from eastern Ukraine through Russia’s Southern Region to Kazakhstan and some neighboring areas in southern parts of the Russia New Lands this past week. Some fields are becoming too dry for optimal winter crop development and early spring planting and emergence conditions. Precipitation will remain limited through the middle of next week resulting in additional drying especially with temperatures continuing well above normal. Substantial rain will be needed soon to prevent this trend from cutting into production potentials, but there is a fair chance that this pattern will return later this year after a short term bout of relief in early May.
