South Africa Harvest To Progress Around Periodic Showers

Kansas City, April 26 (World Weather Inc.) – The main production areas in South Africa were dry during the past week. The lack of rain was beneficial for aggressive maturation and harvesting across the country. Periodic rain will evolve in the coming days and may briefly disrupt the harvest, most notably in Free State and neighboring locations. No major delays or quality impacts are expected. The need for timely rain will increase during May as winter wheat, barley and canola planting normally begins in western and central South Africa. Rainfall in the coming days for Free State may promote a good start to the planting season.

Philippines, Mainland Southeast Asia Rain Still Limited

Kansas City, April 25 (World Weather Inc.) – Despite some spotty rain during the past week, a large section of mainland Southeast Asia and Philippines remained drier than normal. The rain was welcome where it fell and may have supported some planting and establishment; though, ongoing dryness continues to limit aggressive crop development and the planting of new season crops. Harvesting of off season crops and general fieldwork otherwise advanced under good conditions. Drier-than-normal weather will persist for most locations during the coming week. The southern half of Vietnam and portions of Mindanao and Luzon Island in the Philippines will see periods of more significant rain that will help improve the moisture profile while other areas trend dry or do not receive enough rain to impact long-term soil conditions. Rain potentials could increase during the second week of the outlook as the monsoon finally gets underway.
