Weather Trends Still Favor U.S. Plains, West Midwest Summer Drying

Kansas City, May 21 (World Weather Inc.) – Earlier this year there was much talk about a possible hot, dry, summer in the Plains and western Corn and Soybean Belt based on unusually warm February weather, the quick transition from El Nino to La Nina and a dominating lunar cycle with 6 analog years all suggesting below normal summer rainfall and frequently occurring warmer-biased summers. In recent weeks, the U.S. Corn and Soybean production areas in the Midwest, Delta and portions of both the Great Plains and southeastern states have been wetter than usual. This recent turn of events has raised confusion about the prospects for below normal precipitation and warmer than usual temperatures in the Plains and western Corn Belt. Is this a new trend that will be sustained through the summer or does this reinforce the previous summer forecast?
