Mexico Monsoonal Rain To Slowly Expand In Coming Weeks

Kansas City, June 10 (World Weather Inc.) – Drought continues to spread and intensify in Mexico. Southeastern Mexico received some rain during the past week that helped chip away at the dryness, though not enough fell to fix the moisture deficits. Precipitation was again limited in most other production areas. The spread of drought continued to promote less than favorable to poor conditions for late-season winter crop development. Production is expected to trend lower than normal this season due to the poor growing conditions. Early-season planting conditions for summer grains, oilseeds, cotton, and other crops remains poor as well. Monsoonal rain will not be well organized this week except in the far south of Mexico. Some increase in shower and thunderstorm activity will occur next week. The delay will further raise concern about the future of crop production.

Indian Monsoon Underway; Will Slowly Expand This Month

Kansas City, June 10 (World Weather Inc.) – Monsoon rain has been developing and increasing in southern India over the past ten days with flooding occurring along the central west coast during the weekend. Western and southern Maharashtra sugarcane, rice, grain and oilseed production areas have been most impacted by excessive rain recently, although Bangladesh received copious rainfall from a tropical cyclone that moved through that region early last week. Monsoonal rain will shift northward into Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and neighboring areas this week as a monsoon low-pressure center evolves over eastern India. Periodic rain is also slated for much of eastern India with significant bouts of precipitation again expected in portions of the Eastern States and Bangladesh. The rain will help bolster soil moisture and support early-season planting; however, cotton and sugarcane in the north half of the nation will remain stressed until rain falls.
