Canada Prairies To Be Wet Northeast, Dry Southwest

Kansas City, June 14 (World Weather Inc.) – Planting across the Canadian Prairies is either complete or should be coming to an end in the coming days. Fieldwork advanced slowly from northern Alberta and portions of Saskatchewan to parts of Manitoba as waves of rain and wet fields limited field access. Other areas in the Prairies had a very good mix of rain and sunshine favoring field progress. Long-term crop prospects improved across the Prairies this spring due to the wet weather pattern. Waves of rain will persist for at least the next seven days and may further limit late-season planting and general fieldwork in the wetter areas noted above while some drying occurs in the southwestern Prairies. Prospects for most grain, oilseed, pulse and other crops will remain favorable despite the threat for standing water.

U.S., China Soil Moisture Decreases Rapidly

Kansas City, June 14, 2024 (World Weather Inc.) – The latest soil assessment made by World Weather, Inc. today showed rapid drying across the southern United States from eastern Texas through the Delta and into the southeastern states. Portions of the Midwest also experienced a significant decline in soil moisture due to warmer temperatures and a general lack of rain. China experienced some hot temperatures in the past few days while it was dry leading to accelerated drying in the North China Plain and east-central parts of that nation raising the urgency for rain. The U.S. lower and eastern Midwest, interior southern Plains, Delta and southeastern states are expected to continue drying for the next ten days while China may have a few opportunities for showers and less heat.
